a somatic sensibility

Feeling and Healing the body from within.

In 2020 I led my first Somatics and Mindfulness retreat at the Buddhist Retreat Centre in Ixopo.

25 beautiful people showed up, slowed down together, moved gently, explored with interest and nourished their nervous systems with somatic movements. Developing a somatic sensibility is an ongoing practice cultivating all these qualities. Bringing our awareness to our inner experience of body, mind and heart, finding the right inward balance.

I offer this retreat annually at the BRC – please book directly with the centre via their website and I look forward to offering more retreats in the future in Cape Town and other parts of SA.

Jill Adams one of our participants was moved to write the poem below, sharing her experience, giving a flavour of somatic approach, how lovely!

The Movement of Pandiculation
Is the body’s articulation
To release the tension
We’re loathe to mention

Instead it’s all bottled
keeping emotions at bay
It exacerbates stress
And keeps tranquility away

Overwhelmed, under pressure
Is the old way of life
Somatic’s the new cure
To release inner strife

Since breath is life-giving
A force to sustain
Focus on deep breathing
To heal yourself once again

Be bold take that step
For the sake of much peace
Practice much mindfulness
And feel the ease of release
